The Journey of AIM: A Passion for Occupational Therapy in Northland
In the heart of Northland, two dedicated occupational therapists, Deb Rafferty and Deb Glendinning, have built a thriving private practice driven by collaboration, expertise, and a shared vision. Their journey reflects resilience, innovation, and a deep commitment to enhancing health outcomes in the community.
Meet the Founders
Deb Rafferty
Deb’s career began in Northland as a neurodevelopmental therapist, working closely with children, families, and teachers. Her expertise grew further in Perth, Australia, where she specialised in vocational rehabilitation. Passionate about helping those with persistent pain and corporate health services, she remains dedicated to improving well-being. When she’s not supporting clients, she enjoys boating, yoga on the beach, and swimming in Northland’s stunning waters.
Deb Glendinning
Deb’s journey started in hospital and community-based mental health settings across New Zealand and the UK. She later took on a management role in a non-government agency before returning to occupational therapy, focusing on head injury rehabilitation and vocational services. Over two decades, she has played a key role in various Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) contracts. Deb finds balance in her rural home office, surrounded by lush farmland and native bush, and recharges by the Far North coast.
From Spa Pool to Private Practice
Deb and Deb’s decision to venture into private practice was serendipitous. Employed by a rehabilitation company, they attended a conference together. Late one night, in a spa pool with a glass of wine, they hatched their business plan. In March 2005, Active Intervention Management Ltd (AIM) was born. Their combined skills and determination fuelled their success. Little did they know that AIM would thrive, providing jobs for allied health professionals and administrators while supporting clients living in Northland communities to recover from illness, injury, discomfort, and pain.
Balancing Business and Clinical Roles
As both business owners and clinicians, Deb and Deb juggle multiple responsibilities. Their complementary skills and shared vision create a dynamic partnership. Their dedication ensures AIM continues to thrive, offering exceptional occupational therapy services across the region.
Comprehensive Services Across Northland
AIM provides a broad range of services from Wellsford north, coast to coast. Their services include:

Effective communication enhances continuity of care, ensuring clients receive well-rounded support tailored to their specific needs. Whether assisting someone in returning to work, maintaining independence, or enjoying hobbies like motorbiking or gardening, AIM helps clients regain function and purpose.
Empowering Clients Through Education
Beyond clinical services, AIM emphasizes education and training. By equipping clients and families with knowledge and practical skills, they empower individuals to manage their health proactively, complementing the care provided by other healthcare professionals.
